So....
So I'm back here.  Why?  Well, it seems the big world of the intrawebs isn't nearly big enough for me to hide.  For almost a year now I have been rendered voiceless.  Too afraid to post on my own site because my boss "found" me and took my voice away.  She got upset over a post I made (never mentioned her name, nor anything so specific as to be able to trace it to her) and decided to share it with the world.  And by the world I mean everyone in the school district, making it rather difficult to find a job.  That's old news, however, and things there are getting better.  However, the entire situation proved to me that having a voice, being able to express my feelings via writing, is important enough to me to find another way to do it.  And this site is is rather, well, anonymous seeing as my full name is not attached to it in any way.

So I'm back.  And no one knows it but me. ;)  And it feels pretty good.

Patty Melt
I'm cross-posting this one 'cause I like it so much. Bite me.

Every once in a while, probably once a year, we go out for dinner somewhere and I see it listed on the menu. Hamburger done to order... fried onions... gooey melted cheese... all piled onto toasted sourdough. The Patty Melt. There is not one thing on the Patty Melt that I don’t like. My mouth waters as I anticipate its arrival. I love the buttery fried onions that are just a little charred. I love the still pink-in-the-middle burger patty. I really love the melted cheese, all stringy and delicious.

So why don’t I like the Patty Melt? I should. I love every little bit of it individually. But you put them all together and, well, yuck.

It’s kind of like going out with “Mr. Right.”

You meet this guy. Physically, he’s ideal – whatever that means to you. It’s like you built him yourself, using just the right combination of eye color, hair color, and physique. You chat with him a bit and find out he’s got the right job, the right political views, the right outlook on life. He asks you out, you accept. He takes you to your favorite restaurant, which, turns out, is also his favorite. He orders the meal you were going to order before you changed your mind – without any prompting. When the food comes, he asks you if you’d like a taste. He opens doors, is polite to the waiter, leaves a nice tip. He’s smart, witty, makes you feel like you are the most fascinating woman in the universe. He’s perfect.

But there are no fireworks. No spark. Not even the tiniest of tingles.

He’s great! For all intents and purposes, he’s the one!

But no.

And you feel stupid, don’t you? You should like him. Because everything is there. And you spend hours trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with you. Then you start picking him apart, trying to figure out what your subconscious must be picking up on to make him unappealing. But there’s nothing.

He’s a Patty Melt.

Great bones, but when all together, not so much.

Amazon.com thought I'd be interested in reading Bill Clinton's book. Why? Because I once bought this book. Very strange. Is Bill warm and fuzzy? Hillary? Monica? Al?

One more thing about libraries...

I just figured out that if you do a Wishlist search for "library" at Amazon.com, you will get a list of all the libraries looking for donations. Find one in your area!

Okay, love this...

You are "the Bobs".

You are basically in a position of power. With the
ability to fire people at will, you can make
them do almost anything you want. Like forcing
someone to lie about their true feelings for
adult contemporary artists.

I love reading. In elementary school I was always at least 2 grade levels ahead of my class. In third grade I was going to a fifth grade class for reading. By the time I was in fifth grade, the school didn't have a series that would support me. I had to go back through the curriculum I had already completed. My mom had to take me to the public library weekly because I had already devoured my school's small library. In middle school you could find me dragging around several Christopher Pike books at any given moment. I set up my own mini-library at home so my friends could check out my books. I often didn't pay attention in math or science so I could read. At Christmas I would supply a long list of books and albums (I'm OLD!) to my mom who would sigh and shake her head because other girls asked for Guess jeans and Forenza shaker sweaters.

Now, as a teacher, I try to instill in my students a love for reading. I try to encourage even those who are below level, and struggle with reading, to read for enjoyment on a daily basis. Reading about the plight on the California libraries on Pamie's site makes me cry. I hate that some libraries have had to cut their programs, hours and staff due to their budget crisis. I hate that they don't have dozens of copies of Harry Potter and The Series of Unfortunate Events books for their young readers. So I've decided to donate, and you should, too. If you don't want to donate to the San Diego Libraries, call a few in your area and ask if you can donate to them. Maybe they have a wishlist at Amazon, or maybe you have some books of your own to donate. Better yet, see if you can donate some of your time -- maybe do a reading of your favorite children's books one morning a week, or find out if your library needs other kinds of volunteer help. It sure can't hurt!
